Not sure of the batch cost? The recipe cost calculator builds it from pack prices.
When the quick version is not enough
This page trusts your batch cost. When that number needs building — case prices, unit conversion, trim loss — the recipe cost calculator constructs it from what you actually paid, and the food cost calculator takes the result all the way to a menu price.
Common questions
- How do I work out cost per serving?
- Total batch cost divided by the number of servings the batch makes. The division is easy; the honesty is in the two inputs — a batch cost built from real pack prices, and a servings count from what you actually portion, not what the recipe card claims.
- My servings count is a guess. Does it matter?
- More than anything else on this page. If the tray actually cuts into 20, not 24, every cost you computed is 20% low. Portion one real batch, count it, and use that number.
- Does cost per serving include waste?
- Only if the batch cost does. Trim and cook loss belong in the batch cost via yields — the recipe cost calculator handles that; this page divides whatever you give it. Honest in, honest out.
